Why the Freeman Ph.D. Program?

Academic Excellence
The Ph.D. program at Tulane's A. B. Freeman School of Business is built on academic achievement. Intellectually challenging and rewarding, the program is designed for a highly select group of individuals who exhibit a lifelong commitment to scholarship, teaching, and research.

Students are introduced to advanced levels of learning in different areas of business and are trained to conduct independent research in their chosen specialty. The objective of the Ph.D program is to prepare individuals to become business research scientist in the various disciplines of business administration so that they can contribute to innovative research in their chosen field.

Clear Focus
The well-focused program enables students to design flexible, individualized plans of study. The program's structure makes it possible for students to work closely with professors throughout their study at Tulane.

The Freeman School Ph.D. program excels in a few well-identified areas: finance and organizational behavior.

The school ensures that each graduate has strength in a basic discipline and specialization in a functional area. The functional area of finance are an integral part of the underlying discipline of applied economics. Organizational behavior is inextricably linked with social and industrial psychology.

Interdisciplinary Approach The Freeman School is small enough to avoid decentralization of study into departments. The faculty members belong to one or more loosely defined groups, but considerable overlap exists in the membership of these groups. This interdisciplinary approach broadens a student's vision and enhances academic breadth. The Freeman School's close working association with other academic units within Tulane contributes tremendous research synergy to the business Ph.D. program. The quality of the program is enhanced by the active involvement of members of Tulane's Faculty of Liberal arts and Sciences. Faculty from such departments as Economics, Mathematics, and Psychology actively participate in training Freeman School students in conducting joint research with the Freeman faculty. Completion of the program generally entails four to five years study beyond the bachelor's degree. A business degree is not required for the program.
