Candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Management degree are required to complete a minimum of 122 credits of academic work and to achieve a 2.00 cumulative grade point average overall at Tulane and 2.00 cumulative grade point average in their business courses, including business prerequisites and a 2.00 cumulative grade point average in their major courses. The BSM degree comprises 45 to 60 Freeman credit hours.

The accounting major learns about generating, evaluating, and using financial information for external and internal reporting, taxation, and decision making. The accounting curriculum prepares students for careers in public or corporate accounting and provides excellent preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination. CPA EXAM: Please note that qualifying to sit for the CPA examination requires courses beyond the minimum for an accounting major. The CPA requirements for candidates registering in the State of Louisiana after December 31, 1996, include 150 hours of college/university credit and other specific accounting and business requirements. For more information about requirements in other states, contact the State Board of Accounting where you plan to practice. A number of states now require or will soon require 150 hours.

Coursework for the finance major covers concepts of valuation, investment, and financial structure in corporate financial management. Many finance majors begin their careers in corporate finance, commercial banking, or as analysts in investment banking firms.

Information Systems Major
This major is only available to students who completed 56 credits as ISPM majors by Fall 2006.
The information systems major concentrates on utilizing emerging technologies to enhance business decision making. Information systems (IS) professionals define, develop, and maintain the information systems infrastructure that supports the operations of all businesses, governments, and other institutions. These professionals use a wide variety of skills ranging from managerial to highly technical in carrying out this professional function. This major will help graduates to pursue opportunities in business analysis, consulting, information systems design, IS management, programming, and administration.

Legal Studies in Business Major
The legal studies in business major learns about legal and risk concepts, legal research, and legal writing as they apply to business managers that run them. Students in this major can tailor their curriculum to prepare for careers in risk management, real estate, insurance, consulting, human resources management, e-commerce, and conflict management. Some legal studies in business majors may go on to manage the business operations of law firms. Finally, the major provides a solid foundation for those students who wish to pursue a law degree.
