Completed at a cost of $7 million in 1986, Goldring/Woldenberg Hall was the first free-standing academic building built on Tulane’s campus in 15 years. The 77,000 square foot facility houses the Freeman School’s undergraduate BSM program, the Turchin Business Library, the Office of Admissions, the Career Management Center, the Management Technology Center, and the Office of the Dean. The building’s first level is dedicated exclusively to teaching, with an auditorium, six lecture theaters and three classrooms, and the building features an impressive three-story atrium running the length of the building that serves as a student lounge. In 2000, a wireless network was installed, making Goldring/Woldenberg Hall the first building on Tulane’s campus to feature wireless connectivity throughout. Complementing the original building is the new Goldring/Woldenberg Hall II, which houses the MBA program as well as the Stewart Center for Executive Education. The 60,000 square foot facility, built at a cost of $26 million, features a 130-seat lecture theater, four 65-seat case method style MBA classrooms, seminar rooms, breakout rooms, student government offices, and an information systems and technology laboratory. A centerpiece of the new building is the Trading Centre, a simulated trading floor that enables students to gain practical experience in such areas as energy, fixed income, equities and foreign exchange. The center, which will facilitate experiential learning programs such as Burkenroad Reports, the Darwin Fenner Student Managed Fund and the McNew Pelican Fund, features more than $1 million worth of state-of-the-art hardware and software, including KIODEX, FEA, Crystal Ball, OS Financial Trading Systems and MG Financial. In addition to the Trading Centre, Goldring/Woldenberg Hall II also houses the Burkenroad Reports program, the Goldring Institute of International Business and the Burkenroad Institute for Ethics and Leadership in Management. Goldring/Woldenberg Hall II is located directly adjacent to Goldring/Woldenberg Hall. The buildings are named in honor of Freeman School benefactors Stephen Goldring and Malcolm Woldenberg. The pair founded Magnolia Marketing Co., a New Orleans liquor distribution company that ranks as one of the city’s largest privately held companies. Goldring and Woldenberg were active in the community and supported a wide variety of charitable causes. Since their deaths, the families of both men have carried on their spirit of giving through the philanthropic foundations they established. |
