Freeman School Computer Requirements and Specifications

The following required machine specifications will meet your needs in the classroom and should be adequate throughout your tenure in the Freeman program. Note that in order to support specialized required classroom software, the Freeman School has standardized on the Windows operating system and application software for that platform. Computers running the Windows operating system as their base operating system are required for the program; Apple Macintosh or equivalent computers and computers running the Linux or similar operating systems are not supported. See the document "About the Macintosh" for more information. 

  • Notebook computer with Intel Pentium-class or compatible CPU (Intel, AMD)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions only (32-bit editions of Windows only; Windows Server platforms are not allowed)
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Professional
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser
  • Wired or wireless Ethernet adapter (and station cable, if wired)
  • Anti-virus software (McAfee VirusScan is available through Tulane's license)

Minimum machine specifications:

  • 1.5 GHz Pentium or equivalent CPU
  • 1 GB memory
  • 60 GB hard disk
  • CD-ROM drive; DVD drive preferred
  • Audio (including microphone, audio-in, audio-out, and built-in speakers)
  • Modem (56K)
  • PCMCIA slot (may be required for external network adapter)

Additional information about the Ethernet adapter:
The Ethernet networking adapter can be either built-in or external.
Wireless Ethernet uses the IEEE 802.11b/g standard.

Suggested options:

  • Second battery (strongly recommended)
  • Larger hard disk capacity
  • Extended warranty (2-year minimum)
