Angelo DeNisi is dean of the A. B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. After receiving his PhD in industrial and organizational psychology from Purdue University, DeNisi taught at Kent State University, the University of South Carolina and Rutgers University before moving to Texas A&M University, where he served as director of the Center for Human Resource Management and later as head of the Department of Management and holder of the Paul and Rosalie Robertson Chair in Business Administration. DeNisi is vice president and program chair-elect of the Academy of Management, which marks the beginning of a five-year term on the academy’s board of governors including a year as president. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Management and is past-chair of the OB Division. He has also served the academy as chair of the HR Division, as a member of the board of governors and as editor of the Academy of Management Journal.
DeNisi is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association. He served as president of SIOP during 1999-2000 and received the 2005 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award for SIOP. DeNisi has served as a member and chair of several SIOP committees; he is currently serving his second term as representative to APA Council and also served as a member of the Committee on Division-APA Relations. DeNisi is a Fellow of the Southern Management Association and has served as a member of the board of governors and as program chair for the SMA’s OB Track.
DeNisi’s research interests include performance appraisal, expatriate management and work experiences of persons with disabilities, and his research has been funded by the Army Research Institute, the National Science Foundation and several state agencies. He has published more than 50 refereed articles in journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Psychological Bulletin, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and Industrial and Labor Relations Review. DeNisi has also delivered numerous presentations to universities, professional organizations and corporations in the U.S. and around the world. He has received awards recognizing his work from the OB and OCIS divisions of the Academy of Management, SIOP and AME. He also serves or has served on a number of editorial boards, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management and Journal of Organizational Behavior.
DeNisi is the author of A Cognitive Approach to Performance Appraisal: A Program of Research and Human Resource Management (2nd Edition), which he co-authored with Ricky Griffin. In addition, DeNisi, with Susan Jackson and Mike Hitt, is co-editor of Managing Knowledge for Sustained Competitive Advantage.
