Admissions
The Executive MBA Admissions Committee evaluates each candidate for the Tulane Asia Executive MBA program based on the following key admission criteria:
Professional Experience
The candidate is expected to have a minimum of eight years of full-time, post-graduate work experience, with five of those years in a position of significant management responsibility. The number of years required may vary with the candidate’s level of responsibility and background.
Demonstrated Ability
The Executive MBA curriculum is highly quantitative and requires that candidates posses acceptable mathematical abilities and computer skills. The candidate’s academic and professional backgrounds, as well as English language skills and computer proficiency, are important considerations.
Degree Requirements
Candidates are expected to have an undergraduate degree. A business degree is not required for admission.
A limited number of nondegreed candidates may be admitted to the program as an exception based upon the candidate’s work history, current management responsibilities, transcripts, and recommendations.
Personal Interview
The Executive MBA program is rigorous and requires a strong commitment from each participant. The interview aids the committee in assessing the candidate’s talents, ability to meet the demands of the program, English language and oral communication skills, and degree of personal commitment. The interview also offers the candidate an opportunity to gain a greater perspective of the program and to discuss individual considerations with the interviewer. Interviews will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, and Shanghai, China prior to the start of the program.
Application
Candidates are encouraged to submit applications early. The Executive MBA Admissions Committee evaluates applications and makes admission decisions for the spring class within two weeks of the fall interview date. All application requirements must be completed in order to finalize admission decisions. Applicants are notified immediately when the admission decision is final.
Essays
Essays demonstrate the candidate’s ability to express thoughts clearly and effectively. Responses to these essay questions aid the committee in evaluating the candidate’s written English skills, as well as character, professional responsibilities, personal aspirations, and reasons for applying to the Tulane Asia Executive MBA program.
Essays should be typed and double-spaced with the candidate’s name on each page. Responses should be concise, yet complete and thorough.
Recommendations
Two recommendations, attesting to the applicant’s academic and professional abilities, are required. One should be from a high-ranking officer from the candidate’s organization. A second should be from an immediate supervisor or an individual who knows the candidate well and has intimate knowledge of the candidate’s work.
Transcripts
Official transcripts in English from all colleges and universities attended must be requested by the applicant and forwarded directly to the Stewart Center for Executive Education. Transcripts must show the official degree earned, an official degree certificate in English, or a photocopy of the candidate’s diploma.
Company Support
To clarify company support for the candidate, we ask for a statement from the candidate’s company acknowledging the time commitment involved and confirming the company’s financial commitment, if any. For candidates in entrepreneurial or self-owned businesses, the sponsorship statement should outline the arrangements made to accommodate the student’s academic needs and program participation.
English Language Proficiency
Official scores of the TOEFL or a transcript of an English language proficiency examination is desired. English language skills are an integral part of the Asia Executive MBA program; failure to meet acceptable standards will preclude admission to the program.
Health Insurance Requirements
The University Student Health Service requires that students meet certain health insurance requirements. Proof of health insurance coverage valid in the U.S. during the two intensive seminars in New Orleans must be on file with the University Student Health Service for all registered students in the University. We suggest students purchase a short-term group policy to cover each intensive seminar at Tulane University. Proof of insurance will be required upon arrival at the University.
Immunization Compliance
The University Student Health Service requires that students meet specific immunization requirements. A current certificate of immunization compliance must be on file with the University Student Health Center in order for candidates to be admitted to the University. Immunization requirements and compliance forms will be forwarded to each student upon acceptance into the program.
