A 43 person Korean delegation was in town attending visiting the Powergen conference, a gathering of utility companies and their equipment suppliers that was held at the Convention center. The Energy Institute was asked by the US Department of Commerce to facilitate his visit. Our activities included arranging a short orientation session at the Freeman School followed by a plant visit to the Entergy-Thermal central refrigeration plant, a relatively new unit which provides cooling to the downtown hospital complex including portions of Tulane, LSU, Veterans Hospital, Charity Hospital and the Delgado Nursing School. We also arranged a tour of Entergy's Power Distribution center on the West Bank. Here, in a single room, all of the generating plants, transmission lines, and substations in this portion of the Entergy system are coordinated to insure that businesses, municipal agencies, and homeowners in the southern part of the state receive required power as demand shifts occur during the day.
