Current Research Projects

The Tulane Energy Institute carries out a broad research program that includes both upstream and downstream energy markets. Energy Institute personnel work closely with sponsoring agencies and corporations to execute projects that are both rigorous and relevant. Recent topics include an exploration of boom-bust investment cycles in alternate energy markets, technical change in climate policy models, and the potential use of lignite and petroleum coke for Louisiana power generation. Current projects include bio-engineering to improve the butanol yield from organic feedstocks. A parallel project examines bio-butanol production and supply chain economics.

Future projects include models of the smart grid innovation system and an analysis of microgrid economics. Sponsoring entities include the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the Louisiana Economic Development Agency, and multiple corporations including major funding from the Entergy Corporation.

The Tulane Energy Institute is a charter member of Louisiana's Clean Power and Energy Research Consortium (CPERC). CPERC members address critical scientific, engineering, and economic issues associated with power and energy generation and related areas. For more, visit the CPERC website.
