Two dozen Chinese government officials, leaders in the areas of taxation, education, finance, transportation and state-owned businesses, arrived at Tulane University this weekend to begin a month-long training through the university’s Executive Development Program.
The Executive Development Program, which provides short-term training for business and government leaders is an outgrowth of Tulane’s Asia Executive MBA program, which started in 1992.
Participants in this summer’s program will take a course in United States government, history and culture taught by Tulane political science professor Thomas Langston and a course in public finance taught by Tulane economics professor Emilson Silva.
Program participants will also visit the State Capitol on June 20 where Sen. Francis Heitmeier (D-New Orleans) and Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu will serve as hosts. From June 21 through June 25, program participants will visit Washington, DC, where they’ll meet with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA), Douglas MacKinnon, director of federal affairs for the lobbying firm Sullivan and Worcester and Michael Lind, a Senior Fellow at The New America Foundation, a centrist think tank. The Chinese Embassy will also host a luncheon for the group on June 23.
