Number 49 with an asterisk...

April 5, 2005

In its annual report on the nation’s best graduate schools, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Freeman School 49th on its list of the top business schools, down from 45 last year. The ranking appeared in the magazine’s April 10, 2006, issue.

While no drop in ranking is welcomed, this year’s decline is understandable: Because the Freeman School was not able to complete the ranking survey due to Hurricane Katrina, U.S. News & World Report used last year’s data to calculate the ranking.

“I was glad to see that we retained a spot in the top 50 because, in this game, if you stand still you are losing ground,” says Angelo DeNisi, dean of the Freeman School.  “I am also encouraged about the future. By the time we provide data for next year, we will have gotten the word out about our new MBA program, we will benefit from all the new recruiters who have met our students, and we will benefit from the higher profile we have following Katrina. I am confident that we will move up in next year’s rankings.”

In addition to the Freeman School, Tulane Law School was ranked 43rd in the nation and Tulane School of Medicine was ranked 50th.
