News Seven schools set to compete in finance case competition The 10th annual Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence Finance Case Competition will take place on Friday, April 21, 2006, at Tulane’s A. B. Freeman School of Business. Teams of MBA students from seven universities—Emory, North Carolina, Rice, South Carolina, Tulane, Vanderbilt and Washington University—will compete for $10,000 in prize money as they put their skills to the test to devise the best solution to a complex finance case. “The competition provides the students with an excellent opportunity to match wits with peers from other highly ranked MBA programs,” says James W. McFarland, J.F. Jr. and Jessie Lee Seinsheimer Chair in Business, Finance and Economics and advisor to the competition. “It provides real‑world experience in developing and presenting arguments before executives in a situation similar to that which students will face as they move into the business world. In addition, we feel that visiting teams will return to their respective homes with a positive message about the revitalization of New Orleans and Tulane University.” The competition began in 1997 and has been sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence since 1998. Mr. Lawrence, chairman of Kirby Corp., a Houston-based operator of inland tank barges, holds BBA (’64) and MBA (’65) degrees from Tulane’s Freeman School of Business and serves on the school’s Business School Council and the university’s board of administrators |
