Tulane University has been ranked by the Ford Foundation as the major international studies research institution in the South and one of the top 15 nationally, and a major factor in that ranking is the international business focus of the Freeman School of Business. The Freeman School is dedicated to preparing current and future business leaders to compete in global business, and to achieve this goal the Freeman School offers a wide range of international programs and opportunities.
Through the Global Leadership Module, part of the MBA curriculum, each Freeman student earns a supporting concentration in international business in addition to his or her chosen concentration. Freeman is the only business school in the nation that features program-based travel to Latin America, Europe and Asia as part of its MBA curriculum.
The Freeman School introduced the Global MBA, a special curriculum for MBA students interested in broadening their international experience and taking on leadership positions in the Americas. The program, a joint venture of Freeman and five prestigious Latin American institutions, enables students to earn a Master of Global Management degree in addition to their MBA by completing six courses in six different countries as part of a unique international cohort comprising students from each institution.
Courses focusing on international business are integrated throughout the curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and international programs coordinated through the Goldring Institute of International Business provide experiential learning opportunities for students to broaden and deepen their understanding of the global business environment. At the MBA level, approximately a third of students are international, drawn from every corner of the map. This diversity, together with outstanding faculty and innovative programs, contributes to a unique global perspective found only at the Freeman School.
The Freeman School also offers executive and faculty development programs in cooperation with international partner institutions. These offerings include PhD programs for faculty from ITESM in Mexico, Universidad De Los Andes in Colombia and IESA in Venezuela, and executive programs for executives from Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Taiwan and China.
In Asia, the Freeman School has had a joint venture EMBA program in Taiwan since 1993. More recently, this program has expanded to include managers from the People's Republic of China. The Freeman School's Asia Executive MBA Program was the first program of its kind to bring together in a classroom setting managers from Taiwan and Mainland China. Tulane International Business School in Shanghai, China, houses the Freeman School's Asia Executive MBA program in China, made Tulane the first non-Chinese university to establish a campus in that nation.
At the center of the Freeman School's global initiatives is the Goldring Center for International Business. This institute within the business school provides a nexus for all the international activities and opportunities at the Freeman School. Faculty, staff, and students work with the institute to further the schools international mission. One of the first courses at the Freeman School, then School of Commerce, was Spanish Commerce. Nearly a hundred years later - Tulane and the Freeman School hold an internationally recognized position as a leading school in a world of business.
