Licensed Web Databases
The following databases can be accessed through the Web from a Tulane account, either from the Turchin Library Home Pages or from the Howard-Tilton Pages. Most can be accessed remotely, as well, through a proxy server, which will prompt for a current Tulane e-mail account ID and password. Electronic resources are restricted to currently enrolled Tulane students, faculty, and staff.
Aggregate Databases
The following databases are composed of collections of periodical articles, ranging from full image, full text to abstracts.
  • Factiva.com :  Full text of hundreds of newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Baron's, and the Financial Times. Many publications are updated the same day. Also includes current quotes, market data, and company and industry reports from over 3500 publications. 
  • ABI/Inform (Proquest Direct): Provides index and some full text/image coverage of 1000 business journals and magazines from 1970 to the present. Searchable by keywords, author, journal, subject, and company.
  • Business Source Complete: Includes over 3,000 full text journals in the fields of marketing, management, accounting, finance, MIS, and international business.
  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe: LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe provides access to a wide range of news, business, legal, and reference information.
  • EconLit: Subject indexing and abstracts of over 400 journals, over 500 collective volumes per year plus books, dissertations, and working papers. January 1969 to the present. Updated monthly. This is the electronic version of the Journal of Economic Literature.
  • JSTOR: A collection of full-text, academic journals, including several in economics. All material is copyrighted, and the normal restrictions apply.
  • PsychInfo: Index and abstracts of psychology journal articles, as well as book chapters. This will include many journals that publish in the area of organizational behavior.

    Includes industry surveys, stock and mutual fund reports, corporation reports, dividends, and earnings
  • Thomson One Banker  
    Financial information and analysis on domestic & international companies. SEC historical filings which export into Excel.
  • Hoovers
    Capsule information on public and private companies
  • Datamonitor's Business Information Center
    Includes reports, peer groupings, SWAT analysis and other information on 10,000 companies, 2,000 industries, and 50 countries
  • ValueLine
    Company snapshots and ratings. Includes the traditional Value Line reports in .pdf format.
  • Investext Plus
    Full text brokerage reports on companies and industries  
  • Business & Company Resource Center
    Company and industry information, including industry and market share analysis.

  • Thomson One Banker 
    Financial information and analysis on domestic & international companies. SEC historical filings which export into Excel.
  • ISI Emerging Markets
    News, company and financial data direct from emerging markets
  • EdgarScan
    PriceWaterhouseCoopers Interface to SEC filings including 10K's, 10Q's, and proxy statements.
  • Compario  
    Platform for accounting and auditing technical research and reference from PricewaterhouseCoopers, including FASB & AICPA publications
  • Dun & Bradstreet 3-year Key Business Ratios
    Financial ratios by type of business or SIC. Downloads into Excel.

    Career advice, along with industry and company guides. User ID and password mailed directly to user from Vault.
  • WetFeet Research Career Center
    Similiar to Vault with career information, and industry and company guides.
  • Going Global
    Includes job and intership postings, updated daily, for all countries, as well as country guides and an employer directory.
Statistical Databases
  • International Financial Statistics
    Monthly statistics from the IMF
  • Statistical Universe
    Index to government and private statistical sources, combining selections from the American Statistical Index and  Statistical Reference Index. Some sources are full text online, while others are supported by a microfiche set at Howard-Tilton
  • Census Statistics : Statistics from the Census Bureau, including Annual Survey of Manufacturers and County Business Patterns.

Other Web Databases

  • E-Journal List: Listing of Tulane's online, full-text journals.
  • National Trade Data Bank (NTDB): The NTDB contains a number of databases produced by the U.S. Commerce Department, and is available through STAT-USA. Heavily researched topics include import/export statistics, international market research reports, and country business plans. The Country Commercial Guides are valuable sources of information of doing business abroad.
  • Reference USA: Directory of US companies, with affiliates, searchable by business type, city &/or state, and size.
  • Faulkner's Information Technology Library 
    Studies and news on IT and MIS topics 

Online Databases

Bloomberg: Bloomberg provides information on financial market and commodity news. Major subject areas include equity valuation and derivatives, portfolio analysis, cross currency analysis, technical analysis, bond valuation, bond swaps and switches, and futures and options. There is online help available within the equity sector, as well as an expert help file. Use of the Bloomberg computer is restricted to Freeman students, alumni, faculty, and staff. A terminal is located within the library.


Voyager 

  • Voyager: Voyager  is Tulane's Web-based catalog of books, electronic resources, microforms, government documents, and periodical titles owned by all of the Tulane libraries, except for the Law Library. Also included are links to all licensed digital resources, as well as to full text, electronic journals.

  • Principal International Businesses. REF HF 5071.D8 Brief data on 50,000 companies. Arranged geographically, alphabetically, and by product classification.
  • World Business Directory REF HF 54 .U5W667 Brief data on 140,000 companies in 180 countries. Annual in 4 vols.

  • U.S. Industry Profiles: the Leading 100. REF HC 102 .S828 1998 Profiles 100 industries and leading companies within these industries. Within each industry there is a list of associations & societies, periodicals & newsletters, databases, statistical sources, general works, and a bibliography of material for further reading.
  • Finance, Insurance, & Real Estate USA. REF HG 181 .F56. Detailed information on financial performance, trends, leading companies, and employment. Arranged by SIC.
  • Information, Finance, & Services USA. REF HD 9981.1 .S47 Presents analytical data on the domestic service industry. Covers 320 industries arranged by NAICS. Lists general statistics, selected ratios, leading companies, occupation % within the industry, and data by state.
  • Encyclopedia of American Industries. REF HC 102 .E53. A 2 vol. set that includes over 1000  manufacturing and service industries. Gives an industry snapshot, organization, background, current conditions, leaders, work force, and International perspectives.
  • Encyclopedia of Global Industries. REF HC 100 .E53. History, development , and current status of 155 international industries.
  • Manufacturing & Distribution USA. REF HD 9721 .M3495. A 3 vol. set that includes industry analysis, statistics, and leading companies from 473 manufacturing industries.
  • Encyclopedia of Emerging Industries. REF HC 102 .E54. Overview of 115 US industries. Arranged alphabetically, by name of the industry.
  • Wholesale and Retail Trade USA. REF HF 5421 .W497. Covers 69 wholesale and 64 retail industries. Arranged by SIC.
  • Intrastructure Industries USA. REF HD 9506 .U5A64. Analysis, statistics and leading companies from 120 industries to include mining, utilities, construction, transportation, and agriculture. Arranged by NAICS.
  • Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys. REF HG 4961 .S74 Quarterly cumulation of weekly reports issued by S&P on 52 industries. Include charts, graphs and text on recent developments, industry basics, and comparative company analysis within each industry.

Financial Ratios

  • Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios. REF HF 5681 .R25 T68 This annual publication lists financial and operating ratios for industry groups, arranged by SIC code, based on information released by the IRS. It therefore includes all corporations which are required to file tax returns, although the data is slow to be released by the IRS.
  • Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios. REF HF 5681.R25D8 Contains balance sheets and income statements as well as "common size" financial figures for 5 different industries from Dunn & Bradstreet. Also provides 14 indicators of performance in the areas of solvency, efficiency and profitability.
  • RMA Annual Statement Studies. REF HF 5681 .B2 R6 Financial and operating ratios for 425 industries. Information is obtained from member banks, and only companies with less than $250 million are included. A bibliography of sources of composite financial data is also included.
  • Standard & Poor's Analysts' Handbook. REF HG 4961.S77 Provides per share amounts for selected income account and balance sheet items. Calculations are derived from the S&P industry group stock price indexes from 1960 to date.
